Senior Linux Administrator/Application Engineer

Job Summary:

This individual will work as part of a dev-ops team assisting in maintaining and troubleshooting Enterprise applications, services and tools for Customer Account Agents and Field Technicians. They will have a primary focus on Linux systems and the applications running on them but will also help to support other systems as well. They will also be expected to help coach junior team members.

Bachelor s Degree or Equivalent

Engineering, Computer Science

Generally requires 8-11 years related experience

Responsibilities:

  • Works as part of a dev-ops team to build, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise applications and systems
  • Partners with other infrastructure, software and operation teams on environment design and build
  • Partners with other infrastructure and operation teams on ensuring maintenance of the system.
  • Supports production defect triage and resolution. Provides operation guidance for L1 and L2 teams on outage bridges.
  • Assists in defining monitoring support requirements and implementation.
  • Partners with other DevOps team members to help provide automation of tasks and processes
  • Other functions that may be assigned

Core Responsibilities:

  • Installation, administration, tuning, and troubleshooting of highly available Linux systems supporting Enterprise applications.
  • Respond to alerts and reports of system or application events. Be able to troubleshoot and triage events both real-time as well as post event. Be able to escalate to the proper fix agents if needed to address the issue.
  • Preform and/or oversee maintenance tasks to the system and applications with a minimum of end user impact. Be able to plan and coordinate these tasks with the required implementers and stakeholders in a timely manner. Be able to provide accurate and timely reporting back to stakeholders on the progress of same.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and alerting of all environment metrics for availability including, but limited to, server statistics, usage, load, dependencies and response times. Be able to identify gaps and present solutions.
  • Installation and Configuration of Oracle Knowledge products like Oracle KnowledgeBase and AnswerFlow along with their subcomponents. Raise Severity TARS/SR with ORACLE and conduct OWC sessions with Oracle Support.
  • Be able to assist in the automation of tasks. This includes both creation of scripting and its maintenance. Automation tasks to include single system scripting, but also large scale automation through orchestration systems like Ansible or Chef.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed and recorded properly. Be able to promptly communicate requests for assistance before project impact.
  • Research, write and edit documentation ensuring it is up to date.
  • Coach junior team members on pertinent technical subjects. Be able to collaborate with teammates and peers on technical subject matters.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent work experience in enterprise application development
  • 5 years of experience supporting enterprise sized RedHat/CentOS Linux systems ( >250 hosts )
  • 5 years of experience supporting applications running on Linux systems
  • Experience with enterprise class, highly available, high-performing, multi-data center environments
  • Must be comfortable working on production support incidents on a live call with other support teams, making recommendations, escalating when necessary.
  • Ability to clearly articulate concepts via verbal and written communications
  • Experience with Agile Scrum/Kanban practices
  • Exposure to the following technologies / products / methodologies preferred:
    • Oracle WebLogic and/or Apache Tomcat
    • Couchbase, Elastic Search or similar NoSQL technologies
    • CICD applications like GoCD and Jenkins
    • NginX or similar Software Load Balancer
    • Ansible Tower or similar Task Orchestration system
    • Apache NiFi or message routing system
    • Scripting bash, tcsh, python or equivalent
    • TCP/IP and networking technologies and protocols
    • Windows OSes and Systems (Windows 2016, IIS, ServiceFabric, SQL Server, etc.)

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
